A tweet from evleaks hints that the Android powered Nokia Normandy might still be alive. According to the reliable source, “The reports of Normandy’s death have been greatly exaggerated.” The handset runs a forked version of Android and according to a published report on Wednesday, will feature a 4 inch display and offer a dual-SIM variation with a model number of RM-980. The same report states that the crew working on the device, known as “Project N,” will be merging into Nokia’s emerging devices team which is supposedly working on a smartwatch. Back on Christmas Day, we passed along speculation that the phone was put on Nokia’s fast track for release.
Before we jump to conclusions though, we need to temper expectations a bit. The tweet from evleaks only says that rumors of the phone’s death have been exaggerated. We still are far from actually having a confirmation that the Nokia Normandy will be released anytime soon, or anytime at all for that matter. And for those of you who have been dreaming of an Android powered Nokia handset, keep in mind that this is essentially an Android powered Nokia Asha. And using a forked version of Android means that there will be no access to the Google Play Store and many of the Google branded services.
